Football League Two manager of the month Gary Rowett was the first manager to visit Perform at St. George’s Park to undertake a fitness test as part of the new partnership with the League Managers Association (LMA). The ‘Fit to Perform’ test is available to all LMA members under a new deal launched ealier this week.

The new test, called ‘Fit to Perform’, will see current and former managers assessed on a variety of factors that affect their lifestyle and performance, including dietary and exercise habits and cardiovascular measurements, as well as undergoing a revolutionary 72-hour stress, sleep and lifestyle assessment.

“It's a real physical overview of what the body goes through and where you are at,” commented Rowett. “It's in order to prevent any problems and to help out with your lifestyle. It's something that the LMA do and to have it at Perform at St. George's Park is brilliant.

“It's something which I think is great, I love the sports science side of things and as a runner myself it's nice to know where I can improve and where I can do better.

“We've seen one or two cases in the last few years with the sad death of Mark Vivien Foe and Fabrice Muamba collapsing on the pitch which has really brought it to everybody's attention how fragile people can be in the sport. A couple of incidents like that raises awareness and actually encourages people to do something about it to prevent any more happening.

“We've seen managers before have problems. People don't realise the stress on you and I've even found a couple of grey hairs in the last couple of weeks which is a bit concerning.”

It’s not just football managers who can benefit from this kind of assessment. Perform has just launched the ‘Perform for Life’ package for senior corporate executives to understand more about their physical wellbeing. The assessment gives one-to-one time with the Perform clinical director and uses the latest technologies to give detailed feedback on how to improve physical performance.

There are also Performance Analysis two-hour packages available for keen amateur athletes and a range of physiotherapy services.

“The facilities at Perform for this kind of test are brilliant,” added Rowett. “The knowledge of the staff really highlights what an excellent facility this is for players and managers.”
